Petershof

Since I moved to Switzerland, I kinda got used to see old buildings maintained as pristine as if they were built yesterday. Fresh paint, crumbling decorations substituted by new copies, etc… That's why this particular building is special. No paint jobs, no substitution of rusty fence or crumbling stones. Superimposed layers of old commercial signs still visible on the facade. You can actually see that each passing year took its toll. Beautiful, as a perfectly-kept centuries-old house could not aspire to be. And inside, it's even better! The ground floor is an antique store full of old books and prints and furniture and awesome stuff, while the upper floors host art exhibitions. You can see the wooden beams, the old walls, breath the years. Wonderful. One of my favorite places in Basel.
