Caudwell's Castle

This castle-style house is located on Folly Bridge Island, a tiny island in the Thames. Francis Bacon lived here, although not in this house. This one was build by an accountant James Caudwell, in 1849 and it is covered with white sculptures. On its summit, above the ramparts, I noticed a statue of Atlas, but without the globe on its back, so that we can call it an Atlas Shrugged. As an aside, in 1851 some students decided it would have been fun to push one of Caudwell's decorative cannons into the river. Caudwell didn't find it amusing and shot one of them, wounding him severely.
