This is Helvetia, taking a rest from her trip, sitting nearby Mittlerebrucke, and looking over the Rhine. A group of tourist with a guide decided to make a stop exactly between me and the statue while I was drawing. I had to wait through all the guide's explanation in swiss deutsch before to be able to finish.
I lived nearby the spalentor during my whole PhD, biking every day in front of it. A very familiar and heart-waming view for me.
There were streetworks on the street under our windows. I sketched this excavator on a Sunday afternoon, while it was parked.
One of my favorite places in Summer. Here is closed during the winter season.
Just a boat, parked on the Rhine.
11.10.2018 St. Johann ferry - "Ueli"
The St. Johann ferry - "Ueli", waiting for customers to cross the Rhine.
16.10.2018 Garbage bin
A garbage bin along the Rhine.
17.10.2018 St. Joseph Church
This view is on my bycicle commuting trip back from work. I like the view of St. Joseph church from behind the corner. One night I stopped to sketch it.
25.10.2018 Dreirosen Freizeitzentrum
Here is were I usually train with my rings (behind me there is a street workout gym). I have no idea what this concrete structure is, but I like the graffiti on it. That woman is sitting there having her break every day at this time.
28.10.2018 Graffiti bike parking
The wall is covered with graffiti. I kinda like this corner under Dreirosenbrücke.
30.10.2018 Under Dreirosenbrücke
Under Dreirosenbrucke, very cold day, difficult drawing with numb fingers. The Novartis campus with multicolored autumn trees, is on the other side of the Rhine.
At the Herbstmesse, at Kaserne. It was raining, I was in a hurry, I rushed this one...
03.11.2018 Samstag Zum Mitnehmen
The Munster and the Herbstmesse Ferrywheel, on a not-so-sunny Sunday afternoon on the Rhine.
04.11.2018 Kraftwerk Birsfelden
This is from the Kraftwerk at Birsfelden, an hydroelectric power plant on the Rhine.
07.11.2018 Basilisk Fountain
This is the typical basilisk fountains of Basel. This particular one is at kaserne.
10.11.2018 Basel rooftops
A view of the rooftops of Basel from Labyrinthplatz. I was sitting on the border of a tall wall, getting dizzy looking down.
14.11.2018 Under Johanniterbrücke
Another rainy day, so I had to sketch from under the bridge, Johanniterbrücke.
15.11.2018 Klybeck graffiti
I love spray art. I bike in front of this otherwise anonymous building every time on my way to the German border.
Wettsteinplatz, on a cold, cold Sunday. I tried for the first time the De Atramentis Urban Grey ink.
25.11.2018 Oberer Rheinweg 25
This house on the Rhine with the vines caught my attention few days before and I came back to draw it.
View from Thomasturm on a rainy day
The door of this old house is well below the street level
03.12.2018 Riehenring baustelle
The demolition of this building revealed hidden graffiti. Or they were made after. Yes, most likely they were made after...
Upstream side of Mittlerebrücke, from Kleinbasel. The seagull were chilling.
07.12.2018 Rhine sad beach
The level of the Rhine was very low and a bunch of rocks got exposed. This "beach" is much better on summertime.
Morcote is a ridiculously beautiful village in Ticino, very small. Even better, it was off season and it was semi-deserted and quiet. I was sitting on the lakeside, and sketched our B&B, while the sun was rising behind me.
08.12.2018 San Giorgio Lugano
View from S. Giorgio in Lugano. What a beautiful moment...
This was a commission, I hope it was liked. I omitted the tree standing in front of the house because it would have obstructed the view of the house. I am not very good in drawing tree branches anyway...
The beautiful Monviso, partially hidden by an ugly abandoned old building, as seen from my parent's house
29.12.2018 Fenced Tree
The fence wall was built around this tree. Cool.
31.12.2018 Brolo Castle
I finally went to visit the famous Castello di Brolo. It was closed, it was raining, so I only sketched the medieval village inside the walls.
This church in Piraino it's full of medieval mummies. It was closed unfortunately. I don't like how this drawing came out, but I have good memories from when I was sketching it.
02.01.2019 Patti Marina
The view of the Tindari Sanctuary, small on the promontory, and the gulf of Patti.
06.01.2019 Roche Tower
The Roche Tower. I was experimenting with De Atramentis Sepia ink.
08.01.2019 RhineTunnel Access
I believe this is the entrance of a tunnel that runs below the Rhine, to the other side. I like that is covered by bird drawings.
I wanted to draw this crane since long time, everytime I bike down this street. When I eventually sketched this it was about to snow and I almost lost the fingers for the cold (shacky lines)
16.01.2019 Boat Driving School
The first drawing on my new sketchbook. A Driving School boat parked on the Rhine
A not-so-visible halley in Grossbasel, close to Münsterplatz. Sketched it while waiting for the Münster to open.
20.01.2019 From Munster - Downstream
The view from St. Martin tower of the Munster, watching downstream the Rhine. I went heavy with the ink on this one, adding more etching than my usual. Until the last moment, I wasn't sure if adding color or let the ink only.
23.01.2019 From Munster - Upstream
I climbed the Münster on one cold morning. This is the upstream Rhine view from one of the towers.
I liked the spiral staircase and I had to draw it.
31.01.2019 St. Johanns Tor
St. Johanns Tower, part of the old city walls.
The oldest mailbox in Basel, on the inside of Spalentor wall. I believe it is still in service.
